Sample Saturday: Roc Marciano’s Wee Ill x Renaissance

A while back when I put up the sample for Marciano’s 20 Guns, I asked for the sample for one of my favorite cuts on the album, Wee Ill.

Well, I didn’t have to wait too long for the sample to be revealed. Whosampled user OttomanPrime submitted the sample, a break from an old 70’s progressive rock record.

The Sample:

The female voice you’re hearing is that of Annie Haslam, lead vocalist of the progressive rock band Renaissance. The sample comes from the intro, Prologue from their 1972 album of the same name.

Marciano plucked the sample from the break at 3:43 which is so ill, so ill, so ill.

While searching for this sample, I found that Juggaknots used the exact same sample on a song called WKRP in NYC which they’d release in 2001.
