Movies Watched: Final Destination Films

“Just doing my job!”

Whenever I watch films that are a part of a franchise or sequels, I always try to watch them in order.

Having Netflix has been a great opportunity for me to catch up on franchise films like these because you get to pick what you want to watch and you can just watch them back to back if you want.

Since having Netflix, I’ve watched a number of franchise films such as the Resident Evil films, The Fast and the Furious films, The Godfather trilogy, the Marvel Cinematic Universe films including all three Iron Man films and all the Rambo movies. I still need to see the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie which I somehow didn’t know existed until after I finished watching the first three.

Tonight I watched the last of the Final Destination films, Final Destination 5 and I’m writing this post simply because that movie was such a thrill for me. I literally had goosebumps and even jumped out of my seat once I saw the twist they had near the end of the movie.

I can’t say that Final Destination 5 is my favorite of the five films but it comes in at a close second.

I’ve always loved seeing the deaths and the ones in this film were very, very creative compared to the ones in the really dreadful part 4. Just when you think ‘ok here it comes’, something else happens that makes the death even more shocking and unexpected.

Ranking the Final Destination Films

I saw the original Final Destination a long time ago when it first came out and the idea was so fresh and original to me that it became one of my favorite films. I think I might have watched it a few times too.

I also saw the sequel when that was released too and always thought the opening premonition scene with the motor vehicle pile-up was one of the best shockers. They seemingly outdid the first one.

I can’t remember whether or not I had seen Final Destination 3 but I must have because I remember seeing the scene where the girl dies while getting a tan. Or maybe I saw a clip somewhere.

Anyway I watched the last three parts on Netflix recently and below I’m ranking all 5 movies from best to worst and why I feel they deserve the position they got.

(1) Final Destination

Because it’s the original film that the others are based on. The idea was fresh and original and the death scenes were really cool and sometimes shocking to watch. The events in the film are mentioned in the other sequels whenever the survivors are trying to figure out what’s happening.

(2) Final Destination 5

This one comes in second because it shakes up a franchise that was going downhill and makes it fresh again. The death scenes were very creative and the kills really do shock you when they happen.

Also, I was always waiting for the point where they mention the events of the first film but that never came. Instead you get a very clever twist at the end of the movie that makes this movie all that much better than the other sequels.

(3) Final Destination 2

The second installment in the series had one of the best opening scenes and some of the best kills during the premonition. It also had a unique premise for cheating death and the order of the deaths were reverse. Someone was really using their head while writing this script.

(4) Final Destination 3

This was an Ok film. Just Ok. Nothing really stood out about it and it just went through the motions of being a Final Destination film. Still enjoyed it though.

(5) The Final Destination

Ah, the one with all the unrealistic and campy death scenes. The film just seemed like a parody of the entire franchise and this is by far the worst one in the batch.

If you’ve never seen the films or only seen the first one, feel free to watch them in this order. And feel free to skip the 4th one if you want.
