The Great Gatsby is out this weekend starring Leonardo DiCaprio and the soundtrack to the film is also available.
The soundtrack is notable for being executive produced by none other than Jay-Z who from the reviews seems to have done a terrible job putting it together. I haven’t listened to the soundtrack so I can’t really say what I think.
Anyway, Mr. Carter contributed a song called “100$ Bill”.
“100$ Bill” was produced by electronic artist E*Vax, who is one-half of the duo Ratatat. E*Vax put together a beat with some crazy drums, kids chanting and a futuristic sounding sample as well as dialogue from the film.
The sample used on “100$ Bill” comes from “Spiral” by Vangelis – the same guy responsible for the soundtrack to Chariots of Fire.
“Spiral” is the title track to an album Vangelis released in 1977 on RCA Records.
